I had a really weird experience today. I'm researching the frontier for book 3, Yankee in Atlanta. I mean I'm in deep. Last night I watched the first two hours of Dances with Wolves for a little added inspiration. Then this afternoon I got a phone call that went like this. I answered the phone, "Hello, this is Jocelyn."
Her: "Hello, this is [didn't catch her name] from [didn't catch the place]. I'm calling about the frontier."
Me: Very confused silence. "Um..."
Her: "Didn't you want to know about the frontier?"
Me: "Uh, yeah, I actually do . . . " Racking my brain. I have notes of questions to ask this frontier historian, but I haven't called him yet!
Her: "Well I'm calling to talk to you about the frontier."
Me: "Wha..."
Her: "Should I just call Rob at work?"
OH! Suddenly it clicks into place. She was calling from a locksmith's about my husband's Nissan Frontier pickup truck. Not the Wild West of the 1860s. Got it. Right.
